Confused about the new Karate Kid movie

I’ve been seeing a lot of trailers for the new Karate Kid starring Will Smith’s son, Jayden Smith, and Jackie Chan. What I don’t get is:
How come he is in China with Jackie Chan (who is Chinese) learning kung fu (which is chinese) when the movie is called Karate Kid?
Karate is from japan!

I haven’t seen it yet. But I think it’s mostly called the Karate Kid, because it’s a remake of the movie by that name. The way it applies to the story in this one, is that Jaden Smith’s character knew some karate. When the Chinese kids were beating him up I think they called him the karate kid to make fun of him.
